Description of Virtual Race
The first ever edition of Thailand by UTMB® will take place from 30th October – 1st November and we are inviting you to join the runners virtually to complete your own Thailand by UTMB® adventure.
Based on the Inthanon 4 race, Thailand by UTMB® challenges you to complete 80km with 4,000 metres of elevation gain in 14 days, and head to the roof top of Thailand from wherever you are in the world.
All Finishers will be entered into a draw to win entry into the race of their choice at Thailand by UTMB® 2021, as well as accomodation and transfers from Chiang Mai airport. There are two prizes up for grabs to one male and one female runner.
About Thailand by UTMB®:
Thailand by UTMB® is based around the highest mountain in Thailand, Doi Inthanon, also known as the roof of Thailand. The route showcases the local biodiversity and the forest changes with the gradual climb elevation from 400 to 2,100 meters above sea level. Doi Inthanon is one of the most popular national parks in Thailand. Located in the north-west of the country, it allows runners to get off the beaten track and experience a true adventure; crossing rivers, chasing hidden waterfalls, passing royal burial grounds, and learning about the local people. Thailand by UTMB® has 5 race distances: 100 Miles, 120 KM, 80 KM, 25KM and 10KM and is one of the leading trail running events in Asia.
To become a Finisher, you must run 80 km with 4,000 meters of elevation gain or the equivalent of 120 Kilometer-effort. Kilometer-effort means that for any gain of 100m in elevation, one kilometer is added to the distance of the route. The Virtual Race must be completed by walking/running (average speed of 17 km/h and max speed of 22 km/h max) and outdoors.
The Virtual Race can be completed over several runs or in one go.
The ranking is calculated on the overall timing on the basis of the GPX tracks provided between the first run (start) and the last run (finish). Thus, runners who choose to complete the Virtual Race in one single run will be ahead of those who have completed the it in several runs.
In the event of a tie, the activity time (= time in motion) will be taken into consideration.
Every runner who completes the Thailand by UTMB® Virtual Challenge will be entered into a special draw to gain entry into race of their choice at Thailand by UTMB® 2021, accommodation during their visit and transfers from Chiang Mai airport. There are two prizes available, to one male and one female runner. The winners will need to have their qualifying points up to date to take the start of this race. Winners must confirm their choice of race at Thailand by UTMB® 6 months prior to the race start. They cannot change the distance after registering. The winners cannot transfer their prize for the entry to another person. The prize cannot be exchanged for cash.
You are responsible: For your own race and GPS / tracking system.
All runners participate under their own responsibility: Physical activity requires good training and all participants declare that they are healthy and fit for the challenge
